[Quote from the Release notes (Jon's Attic): Although recorded at the Marquee Club,Wardour Street in London on 2nd March 1967, the first four tracks on this disc were for a broadcast on the German TV programme "Beatclub" and therefore merit inclusion here. The actual first broadcast date of the show was 11th March 1967 and the band were introduced by DJ Dave Lee Travis. The following tracks are a complete radio broadcast on German radio NDR for the programme "Twenclub". It was a live broadcast on 18th March 1967 and starts with an interview with Jimi and Noel conducted by Jochen Rathmann. The "Twenclub" recording is one of the earliest complete Experience shows in existence. The 17th May interview with the band was recorded at the Hotel Intercontinental, Frankfurt in West Germany and was conducted by Hans Carl Schmidt. This is the complete interview in wonderful quality. The final tracks are from the only known German video footage of the band from that year. Recorded at Stadthalle, Offenbach, West Germany on the 18th May 1967 they were first broadcast on "Beat, Beat, Beat !" Hessischer Rundfunk, German TV on 29th May 1967 and have been rebroadcast on more than one occasion since then.] *************************************************************
University of Oklahoma, Norman, OK 8th May 1970 (2nd show) - Master (Jon's Attic @ STG 002 / 03.03.2004 / 1CDR)

[Quote from the Release notes / Jon's Attic: This has to be one of the best audience recordings from Jim's 1970 American tour but sadly it probably will never see the light of day as a Dagger release although in my humble opinion it should be strong candidate. A cracker of a concert from start to finish, it has spell binding versions of "Red House" (64) and "Hear My Train A-Comin'" (41). The version of "Machine Gun" (17) here is an absolute killer. The more familiar version on the "Band of Gypsys" album was just a rehearsal for this. There are a couple of dropouts at the start of the show. These could be fixed but this is the raw, unedited source straight from the master reel.]

The Blues Project Outtakes (Jon's Attic @ STG 003 / 04.03.2004 / 1CDR)
Outtakes 1968-70 [Tracks prepared and / or conisdered for the CD ":Blues"]
1st Gen [Master Reels > Cassette > DAT > CDR]
Tracklist: "New Rising Sun" (2); 8:26 [Same as on "The Capricorn Tape"] "Country Blues" (2) > "Astro Man" (5i); 8:37 [A little more complete at the end than the other versions of mix (2), this goes into the first few seconds of "Astro Man" (5) before ending. [Same as on ":Raw Blues"] "Hear My Train A Comin'" (52); 8:07 [Same as on "The Capricorn Tape" and ":Raw Blues"] "Belly Button Window" (6); 2:25 [Complete alternate take. Same as on "The Capricorn Tape" and ":Raw Blues"] "Things I Used To Do" (8); 5:45 [Longer than the alternate edited versions (5) on "Live & Unreleased - The Radio Show" and (7) on "Lifelines - The Jimi Hendrix Story", but still incomplete. Same as on ":Raw Blues"] "Villanova Junction" (17) Jam; 27:34 [The longest available version of this jam. Same as on ":Raw Blues"] "Three Little Bears" (4) > "South Saturn Delta" (4) > "Jam"; 12:44
[Quote from the Release notes: 1994 saw the release of the Alan Douglas produced ":Blues" album. This was seen as one of his better efforts during his time managing Jimi's music. A cassette containing three outtakes was sent to a couple of high profile collectors shortly after. This tape contained "Villanova Junction" (14), "Hear My train A-Comin'" (52) and "Belly Button Window" (5). For a while this tape was in very limited circulation amongst a few hard core collectors. Later the tracks saw the first light of day on the bootleg "500.000 Halos" (ftbfs: B564) which was named after line in a poem written by Jimi post Woodstock. However there were more outtakes than those three and more has leaked out over theb years (albeit in limited circulation). I am slightly dubious about the generation of this material but it is nevertheless of extremely high quality. There is a certain amount of tape hiss present here and there but that could just be from the transfer to cassette. The cassette I originally received with the three tracks exhibited slight hiss as well. The tracks on this disc are taken from a set of 11 CDRs titled "The Blues Project Outtakes".] *************************************************************

[Quote from the Release notes: Pease note that the original cassette recording for this show was transferred by the taper to reel to reel. There was then a subsequent transfer so the all copies originating from it should be considered 2nd generation. There are no master copies. Note also that the show [Konserthuset 08.01.68] is marred by lots of microphone clicks early on. The afflicted tracks are "EXP" (4), "Up From The Skies" (5) and "Spanish Castle Magic" (7). Most of the noise was generated by recorder equipment / mic malfunctions and also the taper adjusting the gear. Some of the sharp rapid pops resemble digital faults but they are not. They probably could be safely removed without affecting surrounding material.]

Sbd; Master [Master Reels > DAT > CDR]
[Quote from the Release notes: These two shows have been very well documented and they also fall in to the category of having been bootlegged to death. Probably the best of all the bootleg versions is the double Swinging Pig release "On the Killing Floor" (ftbfs: B332) which is now very hard to locate. The versions of the shows here are from the master reels and provide the best sound quality available.]
notes: - All recordings featured in "The Swedish Shows" series are from the lowest generation masters available. - This set is identical to Klipped Records KRJH 0169 "Konserthuset, Stockholm 9 jan.1969". - Refer to UniVibes issue 40, p.8-16 for a comprehensive review of this tape. *************************************************************
Frankfurt: Aud; 2nd Gen * * Although initially believed to be a Master Clone [Master > DAT > CDR], new information shows that the Frankfurt recording is actually 2nd Gen with the following lineage: Master (4-track reel) > Reel (2-track) > Reel (one track of a 4-track reel) > DAT > CDR. This is however still the best available version of this recording, and possibly also the best surviving master.
Offenbach: Sbd; 1st Gen from TV Broadcast [TV > cassette > DAT > CDR]
[Quote from the Release notes: The European tour by The Experience in January of 1969 yielded some ten audience recordings. The best among them being the 10th Jan - Copenhagen, 13th Jan - Cologne, 23rd Jan - Berlin and this one. None of the German recordings (with the exception of Cologne) are what could be described as top range but they all do capture something of the magic of the band in concert. Although not mentioned here the 2nd show from Vienna 22nd Janis worth seeking out, not because of it's quality but because of the few minutes of solo guitar at the start of "Are You Experienced" (15), a few minutes that prove the virtuosity of the man with the guitar.]
notes: - The Frankfurt recording has no index mark between "Hey Joe" (46) and "Purple Haze" (64). - The Frankfurt recording includes the incomplete "Voodoo Chile (Slight Return)" (44) omitted from "Burning at Frankfurt" (ftbfs: B498). - This disc is also available in tandem with JA 012 "Sporthalle, Cologne 13th Jan.1969 - 2nd Source Master" as JA 064-065 "Germany 1969". - This set makes up the 1st half of the 2CD bootleg "Come On And Get Live" (ftbfs: B787). - This disc suffers from minor index mark clicks, but these were on the original torrented version of the disc as well, and have not been introduced during later copy stages. A Clean version - with an additional track ("Purple Haze" (11)) from Offenbach 18.05.67 - is available. *************************************************************
[Quote from the Release notes: This is the 2nd source for this show. There has been another source for this show circulating in poorer quality for a number of years now and you will often find it wrongly listed as being from the Jan 19th show at the Liederhalle, Stuttgart.]
notes: - Refer to ATM 179 "Cologne 13.01.69 - 2nd Source" for a Speed corrected and modified version of this source. - Refer to UniVibes issue 45, p.3-4 (online version available here) and Jimpress issue 75, p.17-18 for comprehensive reviews of this tape. - This disc is also available in tandem with JA 011 "Jahrhunderthalle, Frankfurt 17th Jan.1969 (2nd show) - Master" as JA 064-065 "Germany 1969". - This set makes up the 2nd half of the 2CD bootleg "Come On And Get Live" (ftbfs: B787). *************************************************************
1st Gen [Master > Cassette > DAT > CDR] ** Although this lineage most likely is correct there may be two cassette copies in there, in which case this is 2nd Gen.]
notes: - The original artwork for this set indicates there are 18 tracks on the CD but there are only 16. *************************************************************
Master [Master > DAT > CDR] except "Young / Hendrix": 2nd Gen ?
Tracklist: "Lord I Sing The Blues" (2); 10:38 "Dancing Blues" aka "Hollywood Duet Jam" (JS3); 9:21 "Cherokee Mist" (1); 6:08 "Country Blues" (1) > "Astro Man" (5); 10:43 "Cherokee Mist" (8) > "In From The Storm" (4) > "Valleys Of Neptune" (24i);6:30 "Dance" (3); 3:54 "Valleys Of Neptune" (22); 3:54 "Young / Hendrix" (1); 14:18
[Quote from the Release notes: This is a sort of companion to the "Blues Project" tracks. These tracks were given by Alan Douglas on DAT to a certain radio station for a special on Jimi. Tracks 1-7 are from that DAT master. The Hendrix-Young Jam (probably 2nd gen) is not from the KPFA tapes but it's been added here to make up the playing time.]
notes: - Features the longest circulating version of "Young / Hendrix", including tune-up. - The Complete KPFA Radio Special + More material from the KPFA Tapes is available on ATM 187-191 "Hendrix for Everyone". - More material from the KPFA tapes is also available on ATM 006 "LA Without The Words" and ATM 057-058 "The KPFA Tapes / Sound Center Studios". *************************************************************

Aud; 3rd Gen [Master > Cassette x3 > CDR]
[Quote from the Release notes: The recording of the Hollywood Bowl show first turned up on the vinyl bootleg "Jimi Hendrix Live At The Hollywood Bowl" (ftbfs: B062) with "Foxy Lady" (100) and "Sunshine of Your Love" (8) omitted and the date of the show moved to October for good measure. The version here is the complete concert in all it's noisy glory and just three steps down from the original tape. For an audience recording it can be classed as good and is perfectly easy to listen to.]

[Quote from the Release notes: These tracks, also known as the Axis Outtakes, nearly never made it past Kathy Etchingham's dustbin. Luckily they were retrieved and ended up in an auction at Sotheby's in December 1981. Since then they have turned up in various guises on collectors lists and of course have been treated to the usual shabby mangling on various bootleg releases. Over the years I've had various copies of these tracks from terrible to very good. These however are the best I have ever come across and were supplied to me by a very reliable source who told me he had managed to track down and obtain a dub from the masters on DAT. Given the quality I have no reason to doubt his claim.]

Washington, DC: Aud; Master [Master > DAT > CDR]

Spokane: Aud; 2nd Gen ** Long believed to be a Master Clone, new information (2005) shows that the Spokane recording is actually 2nd Gen (Master > Cassette > Cassette > CDR).
[Quote from the Release notes: The Bologna recording is one of the better ones to be found. This is the 3rd source recording for this show and unfortunately the taper missed the last two numbers. The Spokane show is quite distant but has lovely versions of "Little Wing" (9) and "Red House" (25).]
notes: - Refer to ATM 164-165 "Palasport di Bologna" for the two other sources from Bologna 26.05.68, 1st Show. - "Voodoo Chile (Slight Return)" is introduced after "Little Wing" (9), but is not included on the Spokane tape. *************************************************************

[Quote from the Release notes: Despite being an audience recording this one is definitely worth having as it is a very different type of show. The first number, Traffic's "Dear Mr Fantasy" (2) sets the tone for the whole show. A very laid back and bluesy version of "Rock Me Baby" (7) follows, not at all the usual fast version. This is the only time I can recall hearing it played in this fashion. "Red House" (21) as ever is superb. Montreal 02.04.68: Aud; Master [Master > DAT > CDR]
Miami, FL 18.05.68: Sbd; Master [Master > DAT > CDR]
[Quote from the Release notes: The Montreal show is a high powered performance and a lovely audience recording as well given the type of equipment the band were using (no mikes on the drums and none of the benefits of a modern PA) and the primitive recording gear used by the taper. Vocals are a little low but all in all an enjoyable ride. The Miami show tracks here are direct from the master Soundboard tape and clear as the proverbial bell.]

[Quote from the Release notes: There are audience tapes of The Experience from 1968 and there is the one from the Fillmore. This has a superb balance of instruments and vocals and could pass for a slightly below par soundboard tape. Jimi and the band are captured in extremely good spirits and it's an excellent fun show from start to finish.]
notes: - This recording includes 0:46 of the incomplete "Wild Thing" (19) plus various between-song chat and tune-ups omitted from all pre-2007 bootleg versions of this show. - Gen Upgrade available: ATM 093 "Bill Graham Presentes The Jimi Hendrix Experience". *************************************************************
[Quote from the Release notes: This was the second night of the Beat Monster Konzert and the second show by The Experience. The audience partook in smashing up chairs and were generally a rowdy bunch not in the least part due to the overdone attentions of the local constabulary. Into this riotous atmosphere stepped The Experience to round things off. The show nearly falls apart after the first number due to members of the crowd showing their appreciation by throwing beer mats (coasters) up onto the stage. After some chiding by Jimi and the MC things settle down and a fine performance is turned in.]

[Quote from the Release notes: A perfectly acceptable recording with everything in balance apart from the vocals which are a little low. This was the second of two shows The Experience played that day. Photos from the concert show police on the stage kicking members of the audience as they tried to get on the stage. The audience responded at the end of the concert by shredding curtains, ripping doors off their hinges and generally wreaking havoc which was just about as bad as the carnage left after The Beatles had played there three years earlier.] *************************************************************

[Quote from the Release notes: The Singer Bowl show goes hand in hand with the recording of the Hollywood Bowl show from September. It's a loud, raucous recording that manages to capture the feeling of the show. Starting with a stunning version of "Are You Experienced" (7) (check out the film footage to see Jimi swap guitars during the intro)the pace of the show never flags with only "Like A Rolling Stone" (7) to give the audience time to catch breath. There may be better sounding recordings but in terms of excitement and atmosphere this one has it all.]

[Quote from the Release notes: This is the companion disc to the one called "LA Without The Words" (ATM 006). Some time after I had made up that set I decided to put it with this disc to make a 2CD set called 'The Electric Church". Both of these discs I put onto MiniDisc from the CDRs so I could listen to them on the move. I actually made a couple of cassette copies which went out in trades. At the time certainly most of the material on this disc was uncirculated and therefore the inevitable happened - it got bootlegged. Those of you familiar with the "Mixdown Master Tapes Vol.1-3" (ftbfs: B621 / B622 / B623) will recognise this as being the first disc. They had taken material sourced from MiniDisc copies, added no-noise and ruined the music. Most of the tracks on those 3 CDs came from MiniDisc sourced material. Here is the music as it was meant to be... straight from the CDR master and in the original running order and without a trace of MiniDisc lineage.]

The first four tracks are not as widely circulated as the other more well known acoustic Electric Ladyland sessions [aka. The Drake Hotel Demos]. Tracks 5 and 6 are from a tape containing various tryoutsof numbers and a jam session with Paul Caruso. They have never been circulated before and "Our Lovely Home" is a new and unheard number [from "The 2nd 10.000 Dollar Tape Sample"]. Luckily it can be identified from the lyrics Jimi wrote. Tracks 7 and 8 come from a circulating tape called "All the ugliness in the world" [aka. The Paul Caruso Rag Session] but they are the only musical fragments on it. The final track is a long acoustic jam with Mitch Mitchell thought to originate from February, just before the start of the US tour in April 1970.]

[Quote from the Release notes: This is the last ever concert played by the original Experience. After this show Noel Redding quit the band. It's an exceptionally clear recording and one of the better audience efforts from that year. [This] ... is known as the 2nd gen version. There is only one source for this show but a few years ago a collector tracked down one of the guys who had taped this. The master no longer exists and the show had been transferred to cassette. This 1st Gen copy was put onto DAT and then CDR. However this new "1st Gen" copy sounded brittle and lacked any bass whereas the original version that had surfaceda couple of years before (this one) has a much more natural sound to it. Confused? Yes I am. I have a feeling that the so called "1st Gen" copy may have been tampered with for some reason.]

[Quote from the Release notes: This show was not ...originally a part of "The Swedish Shows" series. At the time "The Swedish Shows" was seeded, it was not in general circulation but has since become available. Just about all the Swedish shows have been uncovered thanks to the hard work and dedication of one particular Swedish collector. When he found this show the owner stipulated that he would be allowed to make a DAT copy on the understanding that no copies were made. He did however make up a couple of CDR copies which he sent to about four Hendrix collectors around the world for safe keeping but with the request that they were not put into circulation ... However the situation has now changed so I am free to pass this on. It was first widely circulated last year [on the Collectors disc "Swedish Castle Magic"] but for those who like master recordings here is your chance. It's a short show weighing in at about 39 minutes but I do consider it to be a very clear recording.]

This is however still the best available version of this recording, and possibly also the best surviving master.]

[Quote from the Release notes: Two Experience concerts from the European tour of January 1969. Both in their own ways rather good audience recordings considering their age, but they are audience recordings. [The Cologne]recording is the second source for this show. It turned up within the past couple of years and up until fairly recently had only limited circulation amongst a few collectors. It is taken directly from the master. This is exactly how the recording came to me on CDR. There has been another source for this show circulating in poorer quality for a number of years now and you will often find it wrongly listed as being from the Jan 19th show at the Liederhalle, Stuttgart. That source lasts only 28 minutes and is missing "Voodoo Chile (Slight Return)" (97).]
notes: - Tandem reissue of JA 012 "Sporthalle, Cologne 13th Jan.1969 - 2nd Source Master" and JA 011 "Jahrhunderthalle, Frankfurt 17th Jan.1969 (2nd show) - Master". - The above mentioned tandem - and consequently i.e. this set - has previously been released as the bootleg "Come On And Get Live" (ftbfs: B787). - According to the cover Disc 2 features 10 tracks from Frankfurt, and there's no mention of the "Beat Beat Beat", Stadthalle, Offenbach 18.05.67 tracks at all. In reality theare are 11 tracks on the disc; The first 9 are from Frankfurt (without index mark between "Hey Joe" (46) and "Purple Haze" (64)), while the last 2 are from Offenbach. - Refer to ATM 179 "Cologne 13.01.69 - 2nd Source" for a Speed corrected and modified version of the Cologne source. - Refer to UniVibes issue 45, p.3-4 (online version available here) and Jimpress issue 75, p.17-18 for comprehensive reviews of the Cologne tape. - The Frankfurt recording includes the incomplete "Voodoo Chile (Slight Return)" (44) omitted from "Burning at Frankfurt" (ftbfs: B498). - The Frankfurt disc suffers from minor index mark clicks, but these were on the original torrented version of the disc as well, and have not been introduced during later copy stages. A Clean copy - with an additional track ("Purple Haze" (11)) from Offenbach 18.05.67 - does exist. *************************************************************

1968: Aud; 2nd Gen [Master > Cassette x2 > CDR]
1970: Aud; 1st Gen [Master > DAT > Cassette > CDR]
[Quote from the Release notes: "The short tour of Denmark and Sweden in January 1968 produced two audience recordings. Both with remarkably good sound given the primitive nature of the recording equipment. This one from Denmark is the first and I rate this as a very good recording and it should not be judged by the standards of recordings that can be achieved these days. There are five known sources for the K.B Hallen concert in Copenhagen. Usually the ones doing the rounds are the sources known as 'the old tape' and the 'SB or composite tape'. This one known as the 'short source' has never been in general circulation as far as I know. It is probably one of the better sounding of all the five sources, however the recording is sadly incomplete."]
notes: - Disc 1 is identical to JA 055 "Tivolis Koncertsal, Copenhagen, Denmark, 7th January 1968". - The 03.09.70 recording is an upgrade of the 3rd Gen version previously circulated on JPIO 035 "Fighting For Freedom For Everybody" (12.07.2004) and "Köbenhavn Blue". *************************************************************
Boston 27 June 1970 (Jon's Attic @ www.dimeadozen.org 071-072 / 11.12.2005 / 2CDR)
Boston Garden, Boston, MA 27.06.70 [1st & 2nd Source]
[Quote from the Release notes: "These are the two known recordings of the 1970 Boston Garden show. The first one is a stereo recording and the better of the two. Please bear in mind though that both are audience recordings over 30 years of age and can't be compared to what can be achieved today. This is a very fast and high spirited show from start to finish."]
notes: - "Freedom" (20) is missing on the 1st Source.

Aud; Master **
[Quote from the Release notes: "[These] recordings were transferred from the original (two) cassettes sometime around 2000. Up until that time the taper had never told anyone of their existence and they had only been played once after recording. This is the raw unaltered recording only three track numbers, for cassette 1 side A & B and cassette 2 side A. The original recording levels were relatively low and this is reflected in the audio levels. [....] This is the sound exactly as the recorder captured it; it has not been "remastered", "remixed" or "enhanced" (oh hum) in any way."]
notes: - Upgrade (version with verified lineage) of ATM 201 "Berkeley, CA 30.05.70; 2nd Show - 2nd Audience Source". - This disc consists of 3 segments without index marks for the individual tracks. *************************************************************

[* Quote from the release notes: "This is a direct transfer from a cassette copy taken from the master reel that I received from the taper sometime during the late 1990s. As far as I know he never made any other copies (apart from one very rough one which was sent to an American collector and which was used for the subsequent "Cat's Squirrel" (ftbfs: B478) bootleg CD). This is the first time I have made a digital transfer from this first generation cassette."]. *************************************************************
